In a highly anticipated decision on June 17, 2025, the Supreme Court moved to uphold a Tennessee ban on medical sexual reassignment for minors. The Tennessee law bans surgeries and hormonal therapies that would allow a child to medically transition to a sex different from their sex at birth. The court found that the law engages no sex-based classification scheme and that the ban is a legitimate exercise of the state’s regulatory authority.
